I was glad to see that everyone made it safely to school today. It can definitely be a challenge to get to school safely when it’s snowing a whole lot. We had a nice day. We worked on making our own measuring tape, and measuring how tall we all are. We’re going to be pretend explorers and go to Antarctica to learn about penguins this week. Our plan is to compare how tall we are to how tall different types of penguins are. I showed students where Antarctica is located on a map and a globe.
We’ve been needing to revisit classroom expectations around noise level this past week. We’re working on transitions again and practicing noise level expectations. I know some students have been taking it to heart and are doing a really nice job. I think with it being winter and having a ton of indoor recess days hasn’t helped with the noise level. Students are pretty squirrelly right now. If you could have a conversation with your child tonight about what it looks like to be a quiet learner, I would greatly appreciate it. They’re a really good class, and they’re all good friends. It just gets to be distracting when I’m constantly reminding students to follow our classroom norms. If you look on dojo, I’m trying to give more feedback on students I’ve been needing to remind frequently to lower their voice level, or stay on task. I thank you in advance for your support.
Reminders:
SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS: On Wednesday I am going to send home scholastic book orders. The quickest and easiest way to complete the order is to do it online. Go to this link: Scholastic Book orders. Click on the red box, set up an account, and order/pay online. You can also fill out the forms in the back of the book orders and return it with a check to me. When families order books, I get points that I can use towards buying more classroom books for our library. I also like to use the points to get students books before winter break and at the end of the school year. If your child receives free and reduced lunch, or you’re needing some help getting more books into your home for your child to read, I would LOVE to use my teacher points to get your child a book every month. I’ll let your child pick out a book worth up to 5$. Please send me a message letting me know, and I’ll help your child pick out a new book every month. I would love to support reading at home any way I can.
CONFERENCES: If you would like to conference with me, February 19 is set aside for conferences. E-mail: [email protected] to get the link to sign up.
FRIENDSHIP PARTY: I am in the process of figuring out our Valentine’s day Friendship party. It will be on February 14 at 2:00-2:50 PM. Parents are welcome to come help out. Be on the lookout next week for ways you can contribute to make this party a success. Families have been asking about Valentine’s day cards. We will be decorating bags for students to deliver Valentine’s day cards to each other. If you need some Valentine’s day cards for your child, send me an e-mail and I will send some home with your child. I have some printable cards, I can make copies of. If you need a class list, e-mail: [email protected] and I will send you one.
