Your child has almost made it through their first five day week of school! And can I say they are all doing a great job. I am impressed with how well the children are settling into our daily routines. Not only are we learning, but I’ve been having fun with your children. There are so many little moments in the day that absolutely make me laugh! The weather is getting cooler but as we head into cooler weather, it would be helpful if you would please teach your child how to zip his/her jacket. We lose some of our recess time when 25 children need help zipping. Thanks!
NEW WEBSITE: On the website you will find our weekly newsletter, benchmarks that your child needs to meet each quarter, educational websites your child can go to, and a link to order scholastic books online! I will try to update my website weekly if not more than once a week. It is my goal to stop printing the weekly letter every week on paper in order to save on paper. I am going to work on sending out the newsletter via e-mail and also it will be found weekly on the website. You still have the option of receiving the paper newsletter. In this packet I have included a half sheet of blue paper. Write your name, your child’s name and indicate whether or not you’d like to receive the newsletter on paper or through email. My website is: www.mssandberg.weebly.com
LIBRARY: We have library on Wednesday. Make sure your child returns their library book.
READING LOGS: September is almost over! Please return your child’s September reading log back in the yellow folder. I am sending home your child’s reading log for the month of October Please remember to read with your child for 5-15 or more minutes every night. This will really help your child become a lifelong reader and gives you quality time spent with your child. When you read with your child, sign the date in the reading log. If you have lost your child’s reading log, please let me know and I will send them home with a new one.
BOOK ORDERS: September books came today and I am sending an additional copy of the October book orders. They will be due Friday, October 18. You can now complete your orders online. When you order books online you help our class earns extra bonus points to use to build our library. * If your child gets book trust, send in the book order form with 7$ worth of books your child chooses! There is a link to scholastic on my website:

2013 GLOBAL CARDBOARD CHALLENGE: Tavelli plans to participate in the 2013 Global Cardboard Challenge (www.CardboardChallenge.com) to engage 1 million kids in 70 countries in creative play. Please send in empty cardboard boxes by September 30th. Students will be designing and building creations during science lab on September 30. I need extra parent volunteers to come on Monday September 30 from 12-12:30 to help Students create their cardboard creations! If you can help, e-mail me at [email protected]
EXTRA PRACTICE: Just a reminder: The activities and books that go home in the Thursday folder are things you can do at home to reinforce what we do at school. Although it is work to do at home, it’s not homework, and there’s no need to return everything. You’ll find though, that your child wants to practice and show off things they have learned at school.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES: Parent/Teacher conferences will be taking place in a couple of weeks. Please fill out the scheduling form in today’s folder and return it as soon as possible. If you are unable to attend the requested day/time, please indicate what days/times work best for you.
Thanks!
