We had a really nice little week. We’ve been doing a ton of learning, but I’m still trying to keep it fun with engaging themed activities for the month. We’re doing a mini unit on bats which has been fun for us to learn about. One of our science standards is that we understand that baby animals look similar to their parents. We learned that baby bats are called pups and we’ve been comparing and contrasting the differences and similarities between pups and their parents. In math we’ve been learning about fact families (addition and subtraction sentences that are related). Students loved a craft we did to help solidify this through making candy bag fact families. I forget how much they love doing hands on activities, and it was fun to see their excitement as they made their “fact family” treat bags! I wish I had thought to video tape it for you all, they were so cute!
Reminders
VOLUNTEER: I’m sending out the sign up for Guided reading help for the month of November. Come help for about an hour 20 minutes! I have been loving all the parent help, and the kids love when you all come in! I’ve also included time slots that you can volunteer to come in at the end of the week before lunch to help me stuff folders or make copies, etc. If you’re willing to help out, I’d love the extra hands! I planned it to be before lunch so that you could eat lunch with your kiddo afterwards.
NEXT DOOR FUNDRAISER: Join your inspire families on Monday October 29th from 5-6 PM for another restaurant night at Next Door (10155 E. 29th Dr. #106 Denver, 80238). Next Door Eatery is giving back 50% to Inspire on all Inspire orders! This offer is good for dine-in ONLY, on all food and drink, including alcohol. I will be there around 5 with my husband! Looking forward to seeing you and your little ones outside of school. Please register for the event at the following link: https://inspireelementary504u.eventbrite.com
FIELD TRIP: Next week (November 1) is our field trip. I have contacted parents that will be chaperoning, so we’re all set to go. The busses will pick us up at 9 am. We will watch the play Corduroy at the Denver Theater of Performing arts, then students will go to workshops with the actors. After that we will eat lunch and then head back to school. Please pack a sack lunch for your child. If you are unable to provide a lunch for your child, please e-mail me before so I can make sure I grab one for them. We will be gone through lunch time so it’s important they have a lunch. If you have any questions let me know.
FOX TAIL PARTY: We have filled out foxtail again! Next Friday November 2, we will be having our foxtail party. Students voted on having hot cocoa and cookies as our reward. If you want to donate hot cocoa, cookies, or cups for our party, respond to this e-mail and let me know. I’m more than happy to go out and get the stuff myself as well! These kiddos have been working super hard and have definitely earned a foxtail party. It is also dress like a teacher day! Woohoo!
FALL PARTY/PARADE: Our costume parade will be on 10/31 at 2:20 pm. Family members are welcome to watch and should line the blacktop area leading from the west side of the building to the main office entrance. Everyone can wear a costume to school, but no adult scary masks please. We will be having a classroom party beforehand at 1:00 PM. All adult family members are welcome to come and join us, but please no siblings. It gets a little chaotic when extra little bodies are in the classroom.
FALL FAMILY LUNCHEON: Our Fall Family Luncheon will be on Thursday, November 15. Tickets will be available for purchase starting October 29-November 7 in the main office. Families can come and eat a meal with families in the first grade from 11:05-11:30. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
READING LOG: October reading logs are due next Friday November 2.
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT: Join us on Saturday, November 3 for an Inspire family movie night in the gym! We will be showing Disney/Pixar's Coco! Doors open at 5:45pm and the movie starts at 6pm. The PTO will provide popcorn, but feel free to bring dinner, snacks, blankets and camping chairs to get comfy!
