It has been another fun filled week here in our classroom and we are definitely enjoying this cooler weather. I hope all of you are well and safe after the rain and flooding in Colorado. If you are in need of any assistance please feel free to contact me.
MORNING TIME: As we are in the first month of school the kindergartners are ready to show their independence to you and me. When you drop them off each morning please allow them to hang up their own back pack and place their water bottle in the appropriate area. Please also remember that the first bell rings at 8:50 am and instruction begins promptly at 9am. Please remind your child to use the restroom before they come into the classroom. If your child does not have an extra change of clothes in their bag, please send some. Accidents happen and our office has no extra clothes L
FAMILY PROJECT: Review the attached letter and send in your families as soon as you can. J
NEW WEBSITE: I have a new class website! On the website you will find our weekly newsletter, benchmarks that your child needs to meet each quarter, educational websites your child can go to, and a link to order scholastic books online! My website is www.mssandberg.weebly.com
ASSESSMENTS: During the past couple of weeks I have been assessing your child to see where they are at, especially on letters, letter sounds, and numbers. Please see the information in your child’s Thursday folder. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. I want to work together with you to help your child become a successful learner.
LIBRARY: We have library on Wednesday. Make sure your child returns their library book.
READING: Please remember to read with your child for 5-15 or more minutes every night. This will really help your child become a lifelong learner and gives you quality time spent with your child. When you read with your child, make sure to sign the date in your reading log. Reading logs are due back at the end of the month. If you have lost your child’s reading log, please let me know and I will send them home with a new one.
BOOK ORDERS: October book orders went out prematurely last Thursday when I was gone (whoops!). I have just completed and sent in the September book orders. October book orders will be due Friday, October 18. You can now complete your orders online. When you order books online you help our class earns extra bonus points to use to build our classroom library. * If your child gets book trust, send in the book order form with 7$ worth of books! I have a link to scholastic on my website: http://mssandberg.weebly.com/scholastic-book-orders.html

Here’s what we worked on this week:
We are excited about working toward our class points and paws by following the Tavelli rules:
· Do your best.
· Do what’s right.
· Treat others as you want to be treated.
Reading:
· Identifying the letter M
· High-frequency word We
· Book handling skills and parts of a book – Cover, title, title page, page, numbers, author, illustrator
· Making predictions (a guess) and retelling what happened in the story
Writing:
· Writing first name with one capital letter and the rest lowercase (“Kindergarten name”)
· Writing letter M and numbers 0-10
· Drawing a picture that tells a story
· Writing the date and letters we have learned or know
Math:
· Calendar Routine – This covers many skills
· Counting and identifying numbers to 20
· Making Patterns
· Playing give the next number game
Science:
· We learned how trees are helpful to us
Social Studies:
· Learned the 1st step to I Care Cat. We use our ears for listening.
· How to play a game and how to take turns and sharing the community materials
· Using an “I-Message” to communicate with peers. For example, “I don’t like it when you ____________. Please stop.” If that doesn’t solve the problem, seek an adult for help.
Tattling vs. Informing – When you or someone else is hurt or in danger, you should always tell (INFORM) an adult. Otherwise, try using an I-message to solve a problem with a peer.
