I hope you all had a nice, restful 4 day weekend. We’re getting into the swing of things over here. We just started a new unit about birds. We will spend a lot of time focused on our unit question, “What makes a bird a bird?” We’re also focusing in on the different vowel combinations to make the long i sound (the y in my, i_e in five, ie in tie, igh in night, i in kind).
FRIENDSHIP PARTY: Our party will be on February 14 at 2:00-2:50 PM. If you would like to volunteer your time or resources follow this link to sign up to help: Friendship Party Parents are welcome to come help out. We will be decorating bags for students to deliver Valentine’s day cards to each other. I have included a list of all the students in our class. If you need some Valentine’s day cards for your child, send me an e-mail and I will send some home with your child. I have some printable cards, I can make copies of.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS: Went home last week and are due Friday February 15. The quickest and easiest way to complete the order is to do it online. Go to this link: Scholastic Book orders. Click on the red box, set up an account, and order/pay online. You can also fill out the forms in the back of the book orders and return it with a check to me. If your child receives free and reduced lunch, or you’re needing some help getting more books into your home for your child to read, I would LOVE to use my teacher points to get your child a book every month. Please send me a message letting me know, and I’ll help your child pick out a new book every month. This information will be confidential. I would love to support reading at home any way I can.
CONFERENCES: If you would like to conference with me, February 19 is set aside for conferences. Follow this link to sign up: February Conferences
VOLUNTEER: If you’re available to help out, I would love to have parents help out during my literacy time. I can also ALWAYS use help with clerical type stuff. Follow this link to sign up to help out in the month of February. February Volunteer Help
SUMMER BIRTHDAY: If your child has a summer birthday, we are going to start celebrating those in the classroom. I like to give each child their own birthday celebration day! If students don’t bring in treats, then we do extra play stations or extra recess. Please e-mail me before and let me know if you plan to send a nut free treat to school with your child. Here is a list of when I plan to celebrate each child’s summer birthday:
February 11: Harper
February 25: Josie
April 1: Luna
April 8: Anethzi
April 15: Nikolas
April 23: Hudson
May 6: Charlie
MUSIC PERFORMANCE: First grade will have their music performance on February 22 at 2:00 pm. I wanted to let families know so you had time to plan accordingly! This is a performance that our music teacher, Mrs. Phillips has been working with the students on.
