I don’t know if it was the time change, but our behavior was a bit rough this week. On Tuesday, we had to have a class meeting and talk about what behavior is appropriate in school. I was seeing things like kids running in the classroom (after I asked them to please stop, as it’s a safety issue), not following directions that I spoke multiple times, and not participating and relying on the same kids to answer questions. Because of this I’ve implemented randomly calling on students using the class dojo random button. Students that answer my questions I ask, or even attempt to answer it will earn a bonus “participating” dojo point. I’m hopeful this will help your child know that they need to always be listening and thinking for themselves.
On a positive note, we’re getting into the groove of writing paragraphs. Kids have been doing awesome work! Along with writing, in reading, we’ve gotten the hang of taking AR (accelerated reader) comprehension quizzes on the computer. Already five kids have met their reading goal and have earned a pizza party in the classroom on December 23 (congratulations Forest, Lukas, Bailey, Mateo, Zoe)! The other kids are well on their way to joining our pizza party. Keep up the good work of reading with your kid at home. While reading with them, ask them questions about what they read to help them remember. Then you can write the title of the stories you read with them to take AR quizzes at school and bring them closer to meeting their reading goal.
