How crazy were those two snow days!? I straight up haven’t had a snow day in my last 7 years of teaching (though I did get some dust storm days when I was teaching in Kuwait). Needless to say, we were all a bit squirrelly when we got back on Friday. Things have settled down and today the students were wonderful. We got back into curriculum and really enjoyed having our routines back.
In reading we’re getting some great reading instruction aimed at our varying reading levels. It’s made all the difference in the world! Mrs. Lambert and I really feel like we’re able to challenge students at their level and it’s been wonderful. In math, we’ve talked about 2D shapes and 3D shapes and their properties. On Friday we constructed St. Patrick’s Day cubes using six squares. It was a bit of a challenge for some of us and really stretched our brains to actually put together a 3D shape. We’re moving into basic fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4). We’re going to start talking about how to break things into equal groups. We’ve finished talking about the physical characteristics of birds and are moving into building on our research skills to answer the question, “How do birds use their bodies to survive?”

Reminders
ZOO FIELD TRIP: First grade is going to the Zoo. As a part of our Bird’s unit in our Expeditionary Learning curriculum, we’re going to the zoo so we can see different birds up close and explore other animals at the zoo. Please make sure you complete the form and turn it in. I’ve already filled the 5 spots for chaperones to ride the bus with us. If you’d still like to join us, we can use as many parents as possible. If you’re a Zoo member, you can use your membership. You just need to check in at the front entrance and meet us inside the field trip entrance (gate 9). If you’re not a member, you can pay the discounted 7$. Please include it with your child’s field trip payment so we can purchase your ticket in advance. I will give you your wristband when we arrive at the Zoo. I will give further instructions and information closer to the date.
RESTAURANT NIGHT: Is this Wednesday 3/20 from 11am-9pm at Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria (8261 E. Northfield Blvd 80238). Cuba Cuba is donating 20% back to Inspire ALL DAY on Wednesday, March 20th. If you have a business in the area, consider a lunch date that day! The offer is good on food ONLY and is good for both dine-in and carry-out. As always, please remember to tell your cashier you are dining for Inspire for your order to be counted!
LIBRARY: We have library every Tuesday. Please return the books you are finished with, so your child can check out new books.
YEAR END AUCTION: Join us for Inspire's Year End Celebration and Auction which will be held at Eighteen76 @ Dick's Sporting Goods Park. It will be a fun night for
the adults of our school community to enjoy food, drinks, and bid on lots of awesome items, including vacations, stay-cations, certificates for local attractions and restaurants, kid's activities, classroom art, awesome teacher experiences, and more! This is one of the biggest fundraisers for our school and the PTO’s goal this year is to raise money to continue our wonderful Specials program. We can't wait to celebrate with you! Tickets are on sale at: https://www.accelevents.com/e/Inspire19
VOLUNTEERING IN THE CLASSROOM: I need parent help during my reading station time! Mrs. Lambert and I did some regrouping during our reading time. If you can come help us out, we would love that! We have games and chapter book studies for families to help with. Click on the link and sign up for any days you’re available to help us out. You may be in my classroom or you may be working with Mrs. Lambert in her classroom. March Volunteering
