We are off to a great week! I am thankful for five day weeks. I feel like they’re far and few between, but it’s nice to have all of us together for a whole week. We have a goal of making it ten days in a row without anyone absent! We know it’s ok if someone is sick, but we’re really hoping to make that 10 day goal!
We’ve begun a project I really enjoy doing, which is writing letters to each other. It’s a really special thing each kid does for every student. I put it in the back of their learning portfolios and students have those memories. I’m WAY behind in putting papers in their learning portfolios, so if you have a spare hour and want to come in and help me, please send me an e-mail.
As the year closes, your first grader is working on getting ready for second grade. One of the things we’re focusing on is independence. I spoke with Ms. Fitzgerald the second grade teacher and asked her what she would really love to see first graders be able to do on their own as they move on to second grade. The big thing she wants us to focus on is independence and walking to class, unpacking our backpack, and coming to the classroom on our own in the morning! At this time in first grade, your child is really independent! Thank you for your support in helping your child navigate walking to their classroom on their own.

Book Order
Reminders
BOOK ORDER: I am sending home the last book order of the year on Friday. It will be due on Friday May 3 to ensure the order makes it by the end of the school year. This is the last book order of the school year. You can order online through: Book Order
ZOO FIELD TRIP: First grade is going to the Zoo on April 25. As a part of our Bird’s unit in our Expeditionary Learning curriculum, we’re going to the zoo so we can see different birds up close and explore other animals at the zoo. All students have turned in their Zoo forms. When we get closer to the date, I will have more instructions for families. Students will need to bring a bag lunch. If you would like to get a bag lunch from the cafeteria for your child, please respond to this e-mail so I can get the order in. Otherwise, I assume you will be packing a lunch for your child.
READING LOG: We had so much fun eating lunch in the classroom, that we’re going to do it again for students who complete one whole page in their reading log! Continue reading and filling out those reading logs! You can even log Istation practice time, sight word practice, or nonsense word practice into the log. Any form of reading practice counts!
YEAR END AUCTION: Join us for Inspire's Year End Celebration and Auction which will be held at Eighteen76 @ Dick's Sporting Goods Park on April 20. It will be a fun night for the adults of our school community to enjoy food, drinks, and bid on lots of awesome items, including vacations, stay-cations, certificates for local attractions and restaurants, kid's activities, classroom art, awesome teacher experiences (including a nature walk/breakfast with Mrs. Lambert and myself and a computer coding class on a Saturday with my husband and myself), and more! This is one of the biggest fundraisers for our school and the PTO’s goal this year is to raise money to continue our wonderful Specials program. We can't wait to celebrate with you! We have games and chapter book studies for families to help with. Click on the link and sign up for any days you’re available to help us out. You may be in my classroom or you may be working with Mrs. Lambert in her classroom. I also need clerical help and I would love for some adults to come in on a Friday here and there to do a fun educational STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, or math) activity with the kids.
