We have had a jam packed, fun filled week! I can’t believe we’re already 3 weeks done with school. We’ve been really trying to settle into routines. There’s been a lot of talking on the carpet when I’m talking, so I’m trying to nip that one in the bud. However, we’ve been working hard! It’s fun to see the growth already happening in your child. First grade is a big year for a young child! We often call it the “make or break year.” Our goal is to get your child reading fluently with great comprehension and a good sense of number sense in math.
Reminders:
FIELD TRIP: We will be taking a field trip to the Environmental learning center on Friday October 13. Permission forms will be going home at the beginning of October. We’re waiting to hear back if we get a grant for the field trip. I’m writing early because I’m looking for 5 parents to volunteer to ride the bus and chaperone. If you’re interested in Chaperoning, please e-mail me ([email protected]). I will let the first 5 parents that reach out to me have the chaperoning spots. If you’re not able to chaperone this trip, we’re going to be taking two more in the winter and spring.
RED FOLDERS: Red homework folders will be going home Monday September 18. I will talk your child through all the routines of reading and doing math every night! I will give you detailed information on the ins and outs of the homework folder at back to school night.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: is tonight September 14 at 5:30 pm. Please make sure you are here, as I will be providing you with all the information of what we do in our classroom, volunteer opportunities, etc.
DUATHALON: is Friday, September 22nd! The Duathlon begins at 5:30 right here at Tavelli. This is a fun running and biking activity for the entire family.
PICTURE DAY: Student pictures will be taken Tuesday, September 19th. Picture forms are going home today. If you are interested in purchasing a photo, please return the envelope with the correct payment by picture day September 19th. All students will be photographed, whether a picture is purchased or not.
COMPUTER LOGIN: Help your child practice his/her computer login and password. Your child will use this number for various purposes throughout his/her years in PSD. I will expect them to have both their login and password memorized by the end of September. I am sending home a sheet with their login info. Their username is also their lunch number.
BOOK ORDER: forms went home last week and will be due back tomorrow. Participation is optional, but a great way to get your child excited about reading. You can order your books online by following this link: http://mssandberg.weebly.com/scholastic-book-orders.html
